The Texas Lotto was introduced in 1992 and is one of the most popular lotteries in the United States. The game offers players a chance to win a jackpot worth up to $5 million, with smaller prizes available for matching two or more numbers on your ticket. The Texas Lottery Commission has also introduced an additional game called Lucky Numbers, which allows players to choose their numbers instead of using those randomly assigned by computer software.
The current version of this game was released in August 2018; however, there were many previous versions before that date and several special promotions throughout its lifespan (including an “anniversary” promotion).

Biggest Winners

In Texas, Lotto, the biggest jackpot in history, was won by a single ticket holder who purchased their lucky ticket at a Kroger store in Dallas. The winning numbers were:
2-4-5-11-12 (white balls) and 19 (red balls)
The prize for this drawing totaled $1,001,818,000! This means that one person won over 1 billion dollars!

Texas Lotto Prizes and Odds

The Texas Lotto is a state-sponsored lottery game that offers players the chance to win millions of dollars in cash prizes. To play and win, you must purchase tickets from authorized retailers or online at TheLotter.
The Texas Lottery Commission sets the price for each game ticket and determines how many winners there will be per drawing date, but it does not specify how much money each winner receives; those details are determined by an independent computer program called Random Number Generator (RNG). The RNG uses random numbers to decide which numbers are drawn during each live drawing broadcast on television stations across Texas and online via a live stream video feed.

Taxes and Withholding

  • Winners of Texas Lottery prizes are subject to federal income tax and state and local taxes. The amount of tax you pay depends on your total prize earnings and other factors, including:
  • Where you live (your state may have different rules)
  • Whether or not you choose the lump sum option instead of receiving payments over time

Security

Protecting your ticket is a must. If you lose or misplace your ticket, we recommend calling our Customer Service Center at (800) 575-8332 to report its loss and request cancellation of that specific lottery game. Texas Lottery tickets are bearer instruments, meaning whoever possesses the physical ticket can redeem it.
If you discover that someone else has stolen your winning ticket before you’ve had time to claim it, don’t be alarmed! As long as they don’t redeem it first, nothing is stopping us from sending out another one in its place–and this time around, we’ll make sure to put an extra layer of security on top so no one else can get their hands on it again!
